Holsworthy Aquatic Centre, 26 Huon Crescent, Holsworthy –Upkeep and Maintenance Package – Liverpool City Council
Holsworthy Aquatic Centre is located within the South West of the Sydney Metro area and provides swimming facilities to the local community for all ages, from baby to adult.
As part of the ongoing upkeep of the building, Murphy’s have recently finished a package of renewal and maintenance works including ceiling replacement, installation of windows, new external doors, fabrication and installation of security screens and installation of new lights.
The works also involved some minor carpentry work to doors, fascia and eaves and painting of the exterior walls, soffits, eaves and fascia of the building.
The works were to be performed when the building was operational, during normal working hours. This was achieved by planning the timing and areas of works with stakeholders form the Council and centre management. Barriers and signage was used to protect work areas from entry by the public and unwanted persons.
All works were undertaken following a pre-start tool box talk covering the hazards, risks and controls of the tasks to be done. Each of the major work activities was covered by a Safe Work Method Statement for guiding the safety measures for each step of the work. The ceiling replacement was made using a mobile scaffold and stepladders to install a suspended ceiling grid and insert the ceiling tiles.
Some damaged areas of non-friable asbestos cement eaves were removed under controlled conditions. As the asbestos removal work was very minor and less than the licencing threshold of 10 square metres, a thorough clearance inspection was undertaken in-house by Murphy’s and photos were taken to verify hazardous materials were completely removed.
