Tempe Tram Shed

Client: State Transit Authority (STA)

Project: Tempe Tramshed structure upgrade and roof replacement

Murphy’s was engaged by the STA to complete a structural upgrade and roof replacement to the Tempe Tram Shed.

This $3 million project involved:

  • pre-construction
  • site establishment
  • brickwork repairs
  • structural steel column repairs
  • structural steel beam repairs and bracing
  • structural steel roof repairs
  • parapet strengthening
  • installation of wall stiffeners
  • roof glazing work
  • demolition and rebuilding of landing slab
  • replacing roof sheets, insulation, box gutters and timbers, and
  • site dis-establishment and project handover.

Murphy’s exceptional project management and site supervision ensured the success of this involved project.

The heritage value of the building was preserved, and the depot remained operational throughout the project.

The client was impressed with our effective communication, with the standard of work and that the project was finished on schedule.

Scope of work

The scope of works included:

  • brickwork repairs

  • installation of wall stiffeners
  • roof glazing works
  • demolition and rebuilding of roof slab
  • replacing roof sheets
  • insulation, and
  • box gutters and timbers.

Challenges

The Tram Shed is a fully operational STA bus depot. Murphy’s developed a Project Specific Management Plan to avoid disruption to depot operations, to work around the daily changeover of bus schedules and to address any environmental and safety issues.

The project completed with no WHS incidents.
